young and wild, Respecting Mother Nature
After many years in the events industry, wildly talented chef and entrepreneur Aubrey Thomson has started up a new style of catering company which designs innovative menus and supplies all elements for corporate and private parties that utilise local products and services from suppliers who are part of, or follow the ‘Slow Food’ ethos, with creative flair and a huge dash of love for food that tastes great and ‘respects mother nature’. Slow food members (over 80,000 of them world wide), offer ethically raised and fairly produced foods from smaller, often family run and sometimes organic producers who care for their employees, local agricultural conditions and any global impacts made by their manufacturing processes.

I presented our journey from non-farmers to one of the first organic carbon-neutral beef & lamb farms. We have almost completed conversion of our house and farm to renewable energy and near zero carbon footprint with insulation, draft proofing, etc, and switching to a wood burner for space heating and wood burning Rayburn for cooking and heating. We also installed a heat store powered by 40 solar tubes and a wood burner. Our 5kW wind turbine and 1kW PV solar panels provide us with electricity. Bore hole water for us and all those thirsty cows. We even make our own 100% bio-diesel from waste vegetable oil to run the farm tractor and the car to deliver your meat boxes ... carbon free, More at www.TransitionNC.org, click Food Directory

We have over two thousand varieties of apple in the UK but only 15 are grown commercially. Most, like the delicious Cox's Orange Pippin, have been de-listed by supermarkets and as a result most of the trees have been destroyed by growers, also with the help of EEC grant aid! » continue reading

Our featured producers are Jason and Steve, founders of the South Devon Chilli Farm. They been growing chillies since 2003 and now grow over 10,000 chilli plants every year, harvesting tonnes of fresh chillies. They are sold fresh or used in their range of chilli sauces, preserves and chilli chocolate. The business now has up to 8 'hot' staff kept busy all year.
