In January 2006 we made a huge life changing decision. Fed up with not being able to source true organic chicken that is reared locally on a small scale and using more traditional methods we decided to sell our house to raise the money to do it for ourselves. We started ‘Clare’s Organics’ and now produce slow growing free range Organic chickens and haven’t looked back since. We use a slow growing strain of Hubbard bird and only slaughter when they are ready. Typically this can be anything from 10 – 12 weeks of age. The birds are slaughtered individually on farm, reducing any stress that might occur through travel. This means we are in complete control of the whole process from start to finish ensuring each bird is afforded the highest welfare standards throughout its life and deserved dignity at the end. After the birds have been plucked we then hand finish each one and then hang the birds to relax the meat, they are then packed with their giblets (we believe that a chicken without giblets is a crime to gravy) and then labelled ready for sale at either farmers markets or through our local delivery round. We believe that our passion and attention to detail for our chicken is why it tastes like chicken used too and why our customers keep coming back for more. We truly believe that if you haven’t tried one of our birds you will not believe just how different they are.
