east teas is a London-based company that has been dedicated to specialising in importing and distributing specialist, fine-quality loose-leaf teas and tea utensils from east Asia for seven years. east teas is an example of the whole being greater than the sum of its parts. Tim d'Offay lived and studied in Japan during which time he developed his interest in tea and tea culture. For the last ten years he has been travelling to tea-growing areas in Taiwan, China, Korea, India and Sri Lanka also. In 2005 he opened our sister company, Postcard Teas, to import high quality teas from his favourite estates in India and Sri Lanka. Postcard Teas' shop is off New Bond Street, at 9 Dering Street, in London's West End Alex Fraser has been a consumer of east Asian teas for over forty years. His more than twenty year involvement with the Japanese Way of Tea (a.k.a.Japanese Tea Ceremony) brought him a scholarship to study it full-time in Kyoto for three years. He has taught this, when time and space allow, and given presentations at the British Museum, in museums, galleries, festivals and educational establishments throughout the UK and in South Africa and Sweden. He sells tea and utensils at London's Borough Market and is an Associate Lecturer at the University of the Arts London, involved in Cultural Studies and Ceramic Design, which link strongly with his involvement with tea culture.
