Red Polls are an East Anglian breed of cattle, ideally suited to the low lying land of the Cheshire Plain. Our animals are used for conservation grazing, helping to provide habitat for rare, ground nesting birds through the Higher Level Stewardship Scheme. Our animals are grass fed,and the calves stay with their mothers drinking their milk until they are 9 months old. This means that or beef is high in Omega-3 fatty acids,which are beneficial to health, and is full of flavour and extremely tender. We do not use chemical fertilisers, and our beef is as close as you can get to organic without paying the premium. Our animals are slaughtered locally, reducing food miles and stress, and producing a finer quality meat. They are killed at over 3 years of age and hung for over a fortnight before butchering, giving excellent marbling and texture. They are lower in Carbon emissions than conventionally reared cattle. We have reduced our Carbon footprint by one third between 2008 and 2009. We won the North West Future of Farming Award in 2007, and were shortlisted for the Farmers Guardian / Waitrose Farm Entrepeneur of the Year Award in 2009.
