Greg Pilley of Stroud Brewery brewed his first batch of beer in Spring 2006. Just 2 months later the brewery was awarded Champion Beer of Gloucestershire 2006 with its launching brew Budding (4.5% ABV) at the 2006 Cotswold Beer Festival.Â
The brewery has gone from strength to strength and now regularly supplies popular real ale pubs in the district, selling most of its beer within a 10 mile radius.Â
“I started the brewery because it gives me a purpose and sense of place. Hearing people reminiscing about the old Stroud Brewery and the impact it had on local life fuels my enthusiasm to see the new Stroud Brewery equally embedded into local lifeâ€?Â
Stroud Brewery celebrates the people, places and events that put Stroud on the map. Budding is named after Edwin Budding, inventor of the lawnmower from Thrupp and Tom Long after the mythical highwayman hung at Tom Longs Post on Minchinhampton Common.Â
Working with Warminster Maltings, Wiltshire, Britain’s oldest working floor maltings, Stroud Brewery has been able to guarantee a malt supply grown on the Cotswolds. Â
“Brewing a local beer is one thing, but brewing it using locally grown barley really sets it apart. Cotswolds farmers produce amongst the highest quality malting barleys in the UK and our brewery together with Warminster are the links in the chain that connect local drinkers with their local farms and the characteristic landscape they create.
