Campaign To Protect Rural England Bedfordshire branch

The Bedfordshire branch of the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE), a charity, aims to protect and enhance Bedfordshire’s countryside. We are a very active group of mostly volunteers, working hard to help preserve and improve our beautiful and richly varied landscape and to support a sustainable rural economy. Our county includes the nationally significant Barton Hills and Dunstable Downs which lie within the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). We take part in local and national campaigns, monitor planning applications, organise fund-raising events, and run the highly successful Living Countryside Awards scheme, now in its fifth year. The awards recognise groups or individuals who have made significant improvements to the landscape or make a sustainable living from the countryside. The 2012 Living Countryside Awards are now open for nominations. Set in the picturesque village of Cardington, home of the famous Cardington airship hangars, the Summerhill Farm Shop has an outstanding reputation. Thanks to Andy’s family heritage of butchering, we excel in providing top quality meat. We are proud to produce our own homemade items, including sausages (one of which is our exclusive ‘Hangar Banger’) and burgers. We locally raise our own British White Beef on the Southill Estate. The herds are entirely grass-fed. Whether it’s lamb, pork, free range poultry, game or exotic’s – we take great care in butchering the finest cuts of chosen meats for you. From BBQs’ in the summer to turkeys’ at Christmas, we always provide the very best for every occasion. Our appreciation of good healthy food is enhanced by using our local suppliers. Fresh eggs and chickens arrive to us from a neighbouring farm. Local milk, cream and dairy products are delivered direct to our barn doors daily. Our fruit and vegetables arrive fresh and crisp, changing regularly with the seasons. Our delicatessen has a fantastic range of cheeses and fresh cold meats complimenting our range of breads and biscuits. We supply the best sauces to go with the best food. Whether it's a traditional roast dinner, a hot and spicy barbecue or a really great sandwich, we have sauces, olives, honeys and seasoning to add to any meal. We offer a wonderful selection of cakes. Gooey chocolate cake, sticky battenburg, or a refreshing orange and lemon sponge cake, these are just some of the delights on offer. Summerhill Farm Shop provides the finest of British wines that have consistently won awards for their quality and flavour. Warden Abbey, Bedfordshire's only working vineyard, is located a short distance from the shop. We also love our range of country fruit wines. It’s not just about wine however, we provide selected traditional ciders, ales and spirits. A gorgeous converted barn, we are 3 miles to the east of Bedford with plenty of parking spaces. Thurleigh Farm Centre

We are an open farm with children's indoor and outdoor adventure play. We are open most days of the year. At weekends and during school holidays we run a daily schedule which includes animal feeding, tractor rides, mini-quads, bungee trampolines, pony rides and fire engine rides. There are also woods to explore and during the season a maize maze. There is a cafe or visitors are welcome to bring their own refreshments. Throughout the year we run seasonal events and offer more than a dozen different children parties.
