Pancake Week: Week 9 of BigBarn’s Food & Drink Weeks

Shrove Tuesday was the same week as Valentine week this year so this blog is a couple of weeks late. Shrove Tuesday gets us excited about eating pancakes, yet most people, except the Americans, forget about them for the rest of the year, a real shame when they are nutritious and so easy to make?

I am still yet to find a person who doesn’t like pancakes. You can have them sweet or savoury for breakfast or for dinner. What ever way you like and they are so simple it’s almost a crime not to eat them.

Pancake day was a fantastic way to get the whole family to enjoy something simple and get the kids in the kitchen helping to cook this simple meal. We say do it regularly!

Whether you like to flip them high, or carefully turn them in the pan, there’s one thing that really will make a difference to the quality – the ingredients you use.

To ensure your pancakes really are the best ever, source only the finest British flour, eggs and milk. Britain boasts some of the best millers producing high-quality flour that’s perfect for pancakes and any kind of baking. Look for free-range eggs too; your local farm shop, grocer, or even butcher is likely to sell the very freshest eggs, often sourced a stones-throw from their shop so head there for the best value.
