I am a big fan of Food Unwrapped the TV programme with Jimmy, Kate and Matt. Last night they included a piece on Gluten Free Foods and how in most cases they do more harm than good.
This is because unless you are one of the 1% of the population with coeliac’s disease, gluten will not do you any harm. And as nearly all gluten free foods have higher fat and sugar content they are actually bad for you compared to the same product with gluten.
Next time you see a gluten free product, in a shop, like a cake for instance, compare the fat and sugar content, and price for the same product with gluten.
This is rather typical of our food industry where our buying choices are influenced more by marketeers than knowledge.
