Gaddesby Ginger Galavant | Lemon, Orange & Ginger Marmalade

Sold by: Barlows of Belvoir

As the village’s name ends with a ‘by’, it denotes that it was a Danish settlement in the 9th and 10th centuries. There were many wells around the village, which helped the population grow and prosper. Two of these wells can still be found today.

The occupants of this village in feudal times, were very wealthy. This wealth carried on throughout the mediaeval period with the fact that, in 1377, the village’s population was half that of Loughborough and was one of the largest villages in Leicestershire.

In the 1670s industry moved into the area along the banks of the Soar. It might be said that this newfound wealth produced a number people who might be seen as gallivants.
