The last few years I have been very excited to again grow a new variety over from South Africa. It's called gemini, and has grown really well producing an excellent crop

This will be our twelfth year of providing the tastiest gem squash for those who know, and it's a firm favourite of ours.

I got to know about gems on visits to Zimbabwe and South Africa in the 1990's, and I knew straight away that this is a special little vegetable. Back then, I brought a few packets of seeds back with me, carried out some trials, and I've grown them every year without fail since.

This marvellous mini squash is quick and easy to prepare: you can boil whole (maybe piece first) for 15-20 minutes or so, then cut in half horizontally, scoop out the seeds and add a little butter, salt and pepper (and or sweetcorn, and cheese...). Or you can bake them in halves, face down, for 20 minutes or so.
