Guide to Growing Wasabi Plants
Introduction
Congratulations on acquiring your wasabi plants, which were cultivated on the enchanting island of Ireland. These plants will be dispatched to you via Ireland Express or Royal Mail. Following their arrival, it is crucial to provide them with the proper care and environment for them to thrive.
Planting Your Wasabi
Upon receiving your wasabi plant, prepare a plant pot of at least 9 litres, ensuring it has drainage holes. Begin by laying a layer of pea shingle at the bottom to cover these holes, facilitating excellent drainage throughout the plant's growth cycle. Then, fill the pot with a rich blend of fertile soil and compost to promote robust root development.
Positioning and Watering
Wasabi plants demand careful positioning and watering. They must be kept out of direct sunlight, preferring abundant shade indoors or in your garden. Although wasabi enjoys moisture, avoid over-soaking. Ensure the crown of the plant remains visible above the soil to prevent obstructing the growth of leaves and stems.
Edibility and Cultivation Location
Every part of the wasabi plant is edible, offering a unique taste experience. Proudly grown on the Island of Ireland, these plants draw on a rich tradition of cultivation.
Natural Habitat and Home Growing Tips
In its native Japan, wasabi thrives in shaded areas along mountain streams, away from direct sunlight. Mimic this environment by finding a shaded spot in your garden, perhaps by a fence or under trees and bushes. If available, a location by the edge of a pond is ideal. Keep the soil moist for indoor cultivation and nourish the plant with quality plant food, like a diluted seaweed solution.
Growth and Care
Wasabi plants can grow significantly, producing large, heart-shaped leaves and stems up to 50 cm long. Allow ample space between plants to accommodate this growth. As the plant matures, a rhizome will develop. These plants are hardy down to -5ºC but should be protected with fleece during extremely cold nights to prevent damage.
By following these guidelines, your wasabi plants will flourish, adding a touch of Ireland's greenery to your garden or home.
Important Information Regarding Wasabi Plants
Please be aware that our wasabi plants are supplied without pots and are dispatched in bolus form, typically consisting of a ball of soil or a similar medium that helps to keep the roots moist and protected. This method ensures that the plants remain fresh and are ready for replanting in your preferred setting upon arrival.
