Wasabi Plants – Set of 5: Grow Fresh Wasabi at Home

Thank you for purchasing a set of 5 wasabi plants from the enchanting island of Ireland. Your plants will arrive via Ireland Express or Royal Mail. Upon receiving your plants, immediately transplant them into pots with a minimum capacity of 9 litres, equipped with drainage holes. Start by placing a layer of pea shingle at the base to facilitate effective drainage. Then, fill the pot with a fertile blend of soil and compost to encourage strong root growth.

It is vital to situate your plants in a shaded spot away from direct sunlight. Wasabi is suitable for both indoor and outdoor settings. It prefers moist conditions, but avoid overwatering. When planting, ensure the crown of each wasabi plant is slightly above the soil surface to promote the healthy growth of leaves and stems.

Every part of the wasabi plant is edible and nutritious.

Drawing on the cultivation methods from wasabi's natural environment in Japan, where it flourishes under tree canopies along mountain streams, choose a similarly shaded area in your garden, such as by a fence, beneath trees, or near a pond if possible.

Keep the soil moist at home and feed your plants with a diluted seaweed-based fertilizer to maintain their health. Wasabia plants are known for their large, heart-shaped leaves and stems that can grow up to about 50 cm, so space them adequately as the rhizome develops. These plants are hardy down to -5ºC, but covering them with fleece on particularly cold nights is recommended to prevent frost damage.

Important Information Regarding Your Wasabi Plants

Please be aware that our wasabi plants are shipped in a bolus—typically a ball of soil or similar medium—designed to keep the roots moist and protected during transit, ensuring they arrive fresh and ready for planting in your preferred setting.
