Heat a large saucepan over a medium heat.
Cook two tablespoons olive oil, 2 chopped garlic cloves and 1 chopped onion for 4 to 5 minutes or until tender
Add 2 x 400g tins of lightly crushed tomatoes (or if you have your own tomatoes remove skin of tomato by gently dropping into hot water and when the skin begins to peel remove tomato and then peel and crush)
3 teaspoons of sugar and 1/4 cupchopped basil leaves
Simmer for 10 minutes or until thick and pulpy
