Redmile Reddish | White Onion Chutney

Sold by: Barlows of Belvoir

With its open views across the Vale of Belvoir, Redmile is remembered as the birthplace of Leicestershire cricketer, Frederic Geeson, and as the home of George Bishop, clockmaker extraordinaire, who moved to the village in 1762 with his wife Mary.

The Parish Register records the baptism of the couple's nine children, seven girls and finally two boys. John, the penultimate child, followed in his father's footsteps to become an expert in creating timepieces. However, while George died in 1805 at the age of 72, John did not make old bones and died soon after at the age of 34.

Their legacy can still be found in auction rooms today, notably Grandfather and Long Case clocks that have a distinctive brass or silvered dial engraved "George Bishop" in script and "REDMILE" in bold block upper-case lettering.

So, why have we named our Reddish Onion Chutney after Redmile? When opening the jar please take your time to savour the aroma and warm flavours contained therein!
